Of all the studios in the undergraduate program, this third one (UG3) is the most focused on resolving a single project that any educated person from outside our field could recognize as a building.

The goal is to study architecture, not just make it up. In its two most recent outings, this set of studios has anticipated a new Civilian Conservation Corps/Works Progress Administration (CCC/WPA) 2.0, as prominent components of a green new deal. This year, with a prompt from the recent passage of an infrastructure bill in Washington, these studio adopted the theme of “Fitting Out.” Not only built on top of infrastructures, but often also making them more knowable and usable, architecture fits out networked resources. This studio reappropriates that term from, say, shipbuilding or interior design, toward the cultural project of more knowable new infrastructures of greener newer deal.
