“COOPERATIVE AXES”

This project focused on the ways in which program and form can be designed and arranged in concert, and did so by carefully examining a site on historic Ford Lake before constructing a boat house and community center along the shore. This design utilizes the existing topography of the shore to establish two contrasting axes, one ranged above the other. The crew boats occupy weatherproof shelters in the lower axis, situated in such a way that they can be rolled out to open areas, removed from their racks, and then carried down to the water. Discrete bands which enclose space and define the form of the piece are used to organize it into a range of programs catering to rowers and the public alike.
