STUDENT WORK

I started this project by choosing three small objects at random: a book, climbing carabiner, and a talisman. The form and function are derived from combining these objects together. I took this form derived by the belay device and elongated it within the original plinth that occupied my lot, breaking out of the confines of the plinth in two instances. I then added orthogonal boxes jutting out of the sides. Continuing this juxtaposition of orthogonal and blob forms, I added box shaped skylights that emerge out of the blob thats protruding out of the box shaped plinth. These orthogonal elements and the traditional shaped roof act as callouts to the typical suburban home that previously occupied the plot.
