“PLANAR PLAY”
Designed around play, the space is a series of five horizontal planes for children and single mothers. The planes interact from the topographical playscape up through the ceilings, roofs, floors, and betweens. The lifted building is made up of three shapes; two squares and one circle that are delineated by stairs and a ramp intertwining areas of play and rest. As the field of vision moves, the shapes create different dynamics - a flat street facade, a flowing community view, and a geometric plan view that adds and subtracts solid and open spaces as the building is explored. The sculpted ground plane is a delicate response to the planes above serving collective play.
